The 2009 USAPL Battle on the Border is right around the corner!  The meet will once again be held in Charlotte, NC at the Dowd YMCA on March 21, 2009.  Lifters from both North  and South Carolina have represented themselves very well in the first two contests, and this year's meet will be bigger and even better than before.   Equipped and RAW lifters will once again be represented and best lifter trophies will be awarded to both divisions as well.  This year, we will have to limit the number of lifters to the first 60 that register.  Get your entry form in as soon as possible because you will not want to miss this one!!!  Look for updates to the roster as the meet draws closer.

The first of our profiles is up and ready to view.  Adam Mamola is currently the USAPL Benchpress National Champion and has lifted in and won Best Lifter at the Battle on the Border the last two years.  This year, Adam benched a personal best 551 Lbs. with his final attempt while only weighing in at 181 Lbs.  He will be competing for the U.S. at the IPF Bench Worlds later this year in Prague.

Good luck!

Look for the write up and results in Powerlifting USA in the near future.  I will also be submitting the results on Powerlifting Watch.

The 2009 USAPL Battle on the Border will be taking place on March 21, 2009.  Due to the incredible increase in RAW and women's competitors that we have had at the last two meets, we will be rewarding best lifter trophies to the best RAW and Equipped full power lifters as well as the best RAW and Equipped Benchers.  The Best Women's Lifter will also be recognized.  The entry form can be viewed and printed from the site at this time.

Results will be posted on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

The USAPL has had an overwhelming number of new lifters come to lift at the Battle on the Border over the last couple of years, either lifting for the first time or coming over from another organization.  With this being said, I remember how difficult it was to make the transition from lifting in the gym to competing on one of the most technical platforms in the country.  I have decided to put together a couple of pages to help with some of the anxiety of not knowing what to expect prior to entering a USAPL event for the first time.  Remember, this is an abbreviated version of the technical rules.  Always refer to the USAPL rulebook for specifics.  Check it out at the "Novice" link at the top or click the Hot Spots link to the right.

The 2008 USAPL Battle on the Border was once again an AMAZING event!  With over 50 lifters from the States of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia, we were privileged to see technical powerlifting at its finest.   North Carolina has made it two years in a row by winning the Battle on the Border plaque.   The final results and the Top 10 List will be posted soon.

I would like to thank all of the people who made this event possible:  Inzer Advanced Designs and APT Pro Lifting Gear were both very generous in their sponsorship of the meet.  We were able to provide gear for those lifters who are new to the sport, as well as award lifters from the winning State of North Carolina with gift certificates provided by Inzer.  The Dowd YMCA is a fantastic venue to hold a competition.  They have always been very courteous and helpful from the time we set up our equipment until we load our vehicles to go home.  Our spotters and loaders were fantastic!  They were efficient and safety was never in question - no one was injured.  The USAPL in the State of North Carolina has a group of judges that are second to none - the judging was consistent, fair and spot on.  John Demchak, as well as Jennifer and Donovan Thompson brought in their World-class equipment, allowing the lifters to compete on the same platform as they would in a National or World caliber competition.  Finally, I would like to thank all of the lifters who came out to compete at our meet.  With your support, this meet can continue to grow and provide powerlifting that is recognized for its high standard of competition as well as its ability to attract impressive lifters and individuals.  Look for the USAPL Battle on the Border to return to Charlotte next March.

The final roster has been updated.

Photos from the meet are up and ready to view.  If anyone has additional pictures that you would like to submit, please send me an email and I will get them up on the site.

1/24/2008:

It's all about PRIDE.  Coming up in March, we need powerlifters to step up and take the challenge to lift at the Battle on the Border!   Last year was a HUGE success with over 60 lifters taking part in this annual event.  In addition to having an open powerlifting and bench championship, lifters will be representing their home States in competition for bragging rights and a Battle on the Border plaque that will be passed on from year to year to the State that wins.  Last year, the State of North Carolina pulled off a very narrow victory over South Carolina and Virginia.    This year, the top 4 powerlifting WILKS scores (2 lightweight and 2 heavyweight) will be tallied along with the top 2 bench press scores (1 lightweight and 1 heavyweight) from each representative State.

Registration is $40 for the Bench press competition and $45 for the full power meet.  Registration can be completed at the door, but for those who postmark their registration by March 1st, they will be given a free Battle on the Border T-shirt.

The Battle on the Border will be awarding custom medals to all those who place 1st - 3rd at the meet and Best lifter trophies will be awarded to the best lifter of the bench press and full powerlifting divisions.

In the Carolinas, there has been a large push for RAW divisions and lifting in powerlifting meets.  For this reason, there will be a RAW division at the Battle on the Border and RAW records can be broken in the State of North Carolina.   The State chairman of South Carolina, however, has decided to not recognize RAW records at this time.

The Battle on the Border will be held at the Dowd YMCA in Charlotte, North Carolina on March 15th.  In the upcoming years, we hope to expand the meet across the border to Rock Hill, Greenville, or even Clemson, SC.  Sign up and experience a family friendly atmosphere and talk with and learn among some of the best lifters across the Carolinas.  Also, if anyone would be willing to help out with this event, please send me an email.  It would greatly be appreciated.
