11/21/2009:
Let's
get it on!!! The USAPL Battle on the Border IV is
the next big meet in the Carolinas. The battle will
once again be held at the Dowd YMCA in Charlotte, NC.
March 20, 2010 is the date of the contest and the first
of the entry forms are already coming in! This
meet continues to grow larger and larger, and the
quality of lifters continues to improve (check out the
TOP 10 page). Last year we
welcomed over 100 lifters to represent their State and
we look forward to having another large crowd this year!
North Carolina has taken the first three contests, however
South Carolina has been closing the gap and there has
been some noise coming from down south that this will be
their year to take it.
Look for
more updates as well as a roster as we continue to get
closer to the date. Train hard.

The influx of lifters from this year's contest is a
testament on how impressive the lifters were this past
Saturday. Great lifting! Now I'm spent....

3/22/2009:
The 2009
USAPL Battle on the Border III was again a tremendous
success with over 100 lifters competing at a high level
on two platforms. North Carolina has made it three
in a row by keeping the Battle plaque in NC. Much
thanks goes out to everyone who participated in this
event. Powerlifting in the Carolinas continues to
grow and the quality of our lifters is on the rise.
I cannot extend enough gratitude to the many people who
volunteered their time and ENERGY to helping me put this
meet on and make it a success. The spotters and
loaders worked tirelessly and were as close to
machine-like as I have ever seen. We were able
start the meet on time at 10:00 and completed our last
lift at 4:10 in the afternoon. That is AWESOME!!!
We also had zero injuries. ZERO. That
is what I am most thankful for. I want to thank
the score table staff for keeping the meet running well
and organized. Running computers and keeping the
lifters in the correct order is a very stressful task
and there were very few glitches. You can
tell they are doing a great job when you don't notice
they are there. The State and National
judges that we had were fair and consistent. We
were lucky enough to have judges to run a two platform
meet and allow for American records to be broken.
Needless to say, that is rare at a local meet.
THANKS. THANKS. THANKS.
Sherman
Ledford with Quest Nutrition was once again very
generous with providing gift certificates for some of
our best lifter awards. I would also like to thank
our other sponsors, APT and Inzer Advance Designs for
also providing equipment and gift certificates for our
best lifter awards. Tom Simon with West Cary
Barbell also provided a deadlift jack that we were able
to award to one of our best lifters. Thanks Tom.
The gallery
is up on the site and ready to view. Big time
thanks also goes out to Maureen Clary for coming in and spending her
day taking pictures for the website.
If there are
any pictures that were taken from the meet and you would like to
add them to the site, please email them to me at
mouzonchckhawk99@aol.com.
The results
will be posted soon. If anyone broke an American
Record at the meet and had the appropriate judges in
place, please send me an email so we can take care of
the associated paperwork that is required. This
must be done within 30 days!
Thanks for
coming and competing at this year's event. We
couldn't have asked for a better meet, and the
fellowship amongst lifters is alive and well in the
Carolinas. Look for the USAPL Battle on the Border
IV to come back to Charlotte in March, 2010.

3/18/2009:
The FINAL
ROSTER is up and ready to view. The USAPL Battle
on the Border has grown to be 106 lifters strong!
We have lifters from North and South Carolina, Georgia,
Virginia, New York and Connecticut.
If all
goes smoothly, we should be wrapping things up around
5:00. Once again, I would like to thank everyone who is
participating in the Battle on the Border III. Please
shoot me an email if you have any questions about this
year's meet. This is an exciting time to be a
powerlifter in the Carolinas and I look forward to
seeing some great lifting this Saturday!

3/12/2009:
HOLY COW!!!
The 2009 USAPL Battle on the Border III has now over 80
lifters! Due to this incredibly large number of
lifters involved in this years meet, we have made the
executive decision to turn this meet into a 2-platform
venue.
We will
be holding equipment checks (not weigh ins) on Friday
night and encourage those lifting to try and utilize
this time to obtain USAPL cards and get all equipment
checked. Saturday morning, we will be starting
weigh-ins at 7:30 and will try to start lifting as close
to 9:30 as possible.
Please
check the roster to make sure that it reflects the
correct divisions, weight classes and RAW or Equipped
status. We will be putting everyone in the
computer prior to the meet and want to avoid any
confusion on the day of the Battle.

3/3/2009:
The roster
has been updated and the USAPL Battle on the Border III
has now hit 60 lifters! With the large number of
bench only competitors registered this year, we are
going to increase our total number of lifters accepted.
We will NOT be taking walk-in lifters at the door,
however if your registration is completed and mailed in
by March 15, you will ensure a spot in the competition.
This will be an incredible event, so don't miss out on
representing your State and lifting with some of the
best lifters in the country!

1/27/2009:
We are just
under 8 weeks away! March 21, 2009, we need
powerlifters to step up and take the challenge to lift
at the Battle on the Border! The last two years were
HUGE successes with around 120 lifters taking part in
this annual event. This year, the top 2 powerlifting
WILKS scores (1 lightweight and 1 heavyweight) will be
tallied along with the top bench press score. We will
do this for both the equipped and RAW categories for a
total of 6 lifters to represent each State.
Registration is $40 for the bench press competition and
$45 for the full power meet. Registration can be
completed at the door, but for those who postmark their
registration by March 1st, they will be given a free
Battle on the Border T-shirt. We will be cutting off
the number of lifters this year to a total of 60, so get
your entry forms in early.
The
Battle on the Border will be awarding custom medals to
all those who place 1st - 3rd at the meet and best
lifter trophies will be awarded to the best lifter of
the bench press and full powerlifting divisions in both
RAW and equipped categories.
In the
Carolinas, there has been a large push for RAW divisions
and lifting in powerlifting meets. For this reason,
there will be a RAW division at the Battle on the Border
and RAW records can be broken in the State of North
Carolina. The State chairman of South Carolina,
however, has decided to not recognize RAW records at
this time. Contact Regina Hackney for any updates on
this decision. She can be reached at
reginah6@bellsouth.net.

1/25/2009:
Over the last couple
of days, we have been getting several inquiries as to what type
of bar and equipment that will be used at the meet. Here
is the answer: the 2009 USAPL Battle on the Border III
will be utilizing the same type equipment that is used at IPF
World and USAPL National meets.
Another question
that seems to be a hot topic is that of what apparel is allowed
in the RAW division at USAPL meets. RAW lifting in the
USAPL allows for a belt, wrist wraps and knee sleeves.
Knee wraps are not allowed.

1/20/2009:
With the
overwhelming number of RAW lifters that have come out to lift in
the USAPL over the last few years, we have decided to expand the
Battle on the Border Top 10 list to include an Equipped/Overall
top 10 list as well as a RAW list. Both of these lists can
be viewed now. Can you break in this year? Come on
out and get recognized!

1/1/2009:
Happy New Year!!!
We are just under three months away and have already received
several entry forms for the Battle on the Border! The
roster will be posted on January 15th, and will be updated daily
until the day of the meet.
Every year, we have
more and more new lifters getting involved in powerlifting in
general and with the USAPL. In order to help our lifters
become successful and not be overwhelmed with the technicalities
of the sport and our organization, there is an informational
page on the site dedicated to the novice lifter. In the
next couple of weeks, I'll be adding another section to the
novice lifter page.
